The Asian Development Bank (ADB), a multilateral development finance institution, promotes economic and social progress by fighting poverty in Asia and the Pacific. The work of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is aimed at improving the welfare of the people in Asia and the Pacific, particularly the 1.9 billion who live on less than $2 a day. Despite many success stories, Asia and the Pacific remains home to two thirds of the world’s poor.
Australian Agency for International Development
AusAID, the Australian government’s overseas aid program, has been established to advance Australia’s national interest by assisting developing countries to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development.
Canadian International Development Agency
Formed in 1968 by the Canadian government to appease general feelings of distrust and disillusion surrounding foreign aid programs, The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) was formed. CIDA administers foreign aid programs in developing countries, and operates in partnership with other Canadian organizations in the public and private sectors as well as other international organizations. It reports to the Parliament of Canada through the minister for International Cooperation. Its mandate is to “support sustainable development in developing countries in order to reduce poverty and contribute to a more secure, equitable, and prosperous world”.
Gesellshaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ)
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit ( GTZ ) GmbH is a services enterprise for development co-operation with worlwide operations. For over 25 years the GTZ has been supporting development and reform processes on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development ( BMZ ) as its major client, for other German ministries and partner-country goverments, as well as for international organisations as the EU , UN and the World Bank .
Japan International Cooperation Agency
Founded in 1974, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is an aid implementing agency that provides technical cooperation and other forms of assistance to promote economic and social development in developing countries and to advance international cooperation.
UN Habitat
United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN–HABITAT) is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It was established in 1978 and has its headquarters at the UN office in Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
