MIGEDC thanks donors for projects
THE Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Development Council (MIGEDC) expressed gratitude to various Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) agency-partners for helping the council with some of its crucial projects.
One donor group which significantly helped is the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID).
Aside from these ODA partners, projects are also funded by annual fund contributions from its members.
The AusAID supported MIGEDC through its Local Governance Development Program (LGDP) which ran for 13 months alongside a similar assistance projectS in Bohol Province.
Shouldering all costs, AusAID helped in the improvement of planning and management capabilities and competencies of MIGEDC LGU-members through capacity building initiatives, plans and programs, and learning exchanges.
MIGEDC aims to improve socio-economic and environmental status of its community members focusing on the nine areas of collaboration, namely: Tourism Development, Trade and Investment Promotion, Infrastructure Development, Basic Services, Public Safety and Security, Environmental Management, Land Use Management, Transport Planning and Traffic Management, and Special Projects.
The council, composed of the governor and the resident of the League of Municipal Mayors of the Island Province of Guimaras, and mayors of the City of Iloilo and the municipalities of Oton, San Miguel, Sta. Barbara, Pavia and Leganes and the Province of Guimaras was established through Presidential Decree No. 559 in 2006.
It is primarily aimed at helping the member LGUs address urbanization and its associated development sector problems in the area.
The mayors are especially thankful for the help of AusAID, Coffey Int’l. and Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) that made the planning and implementation of the four Packages of Assistance namely: Tourism Strategy and Action Plan, Urban Integrated Infrastructure Plan, IT Projects and Capacity Building Projects possible.
