Treñas asks next city mayor to continue intl programs

The city government has contracted many ongoing development programs with international funding agencies and there is an urgent need for the next elected city mayor to honor these commitments in a bid to make this southern city a premier city in the country by 2015.

This was bared by outgoing city mayor Jerry P. Treñas as he is preparing to embark in another political position in the government by running for congressman of this southern city in next year’s election.

“Nagapangamuyo gid ako nga kabay pa padayunon sang madason nga city mayor ang mga programa nga may suporta sang mga organisasyon pangluwas (I pray that the next city mayor will continue the programs supported by international organizations) Treñas said.

The graduating city mayor bolted recently the ruling administrations political party Lakas Kampi CMD to pursue his bid to run for a Congress seat. He will challenge the position of incumbent Cong. Raul T. Gonzalez Jr. of Lakas for the lone city congressional district.

Chief Presidential Legal counsel Raul M. Gonzalez Sr., also of Lakas, will be running for city mayor against Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Presidential Assistant on Water Larry Jamora of the Kampi party.

“Whoever wins as city mayor will enjoy the technical assistance given by the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) on the city’s computerization program, solid waste management and clean air programs,” Treñas said.

Other international organizations committed to help the city are the Europe Union for coastal management, World Bank for traffic management and the Calajunan dumpsite, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for the clean water program, Asian Development Bank, AusAid, JICA and Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), among others.

Treñas said that the city is enjoying hosting several international events as organizers put trust and confidence on the capabilities of the city in hosting such big events. This month of November, three big international events are being held here. These include the Talent Night portion of Miss Earth 2009 beauty pageant with 86 candidates from different countries, the International Mathematics Competition to be participated by almost 2,000 pupils and their parents from 23 countries, and the International Vermiculture Technology to be held before the end of this month.
