Connecting urban decision-makers at all levels of government and within the community and business sectors to enhance policy making and management of urban areas.

Convening leaders, decision-makers and stakeholders to facilitate the exchange of information and to foster partnerships for development.

Communicating ideas and know-how through applied research, capacity development, and education and leadership development to bring about more cooperative and integrated approaches to urban issues.

Local Governance Development Program (LGDP)

The Local Governance Development Program (LGDP) is an initiative of the Australian Government, managed by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) developed in close consultation with the Government of the Philippines (GoP). This program builds on the experience of AusAID in providing technical assistance to Local Government Units (LGUs), particularly through projects such as the Philippines Regional Municipal Development Project (PRMDP, 1997-2002).

It recognizes the need to adopt a decentralized implementation approach to localize assistance by working directly with Local and Provincial Governments through innovative inter-LGU governance arrangements referred herein as Local Area Development Partnerships (LADPs). It also recognizes the importance of donor coordination at the local and national levels, and the role of National Government agencies to facilitate policy reform to enable the sustainability and operational functionality of LADPs.

Ideas for the City

Ideas for the City is the institutional blog of the Urban Partnerships Program (UPP) Philippines, an initiative that seeks to develop model approaches to enhancing urban and regional governance and the public realm of cities as a contribution to urban sustainability and poverty reduction. The program is implemented by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI), a non-profit organization that implements that Urban Partnerships Program (UPP) Philippines.

The blog derives its name from one of the three program components of UPP Philippines. This component calls for the building of a body of development knowledge on good urban governance, urban sustainability and renewal of the public realm of cities through applied research, urban symposia and the creation of information and toolkits.

Sharing and generating ideas on good urban governance, urban sustainability and renewal of the public realm of cities on-line as an initial step in building of a body of development knowledge is a faster, cheaper and an innovating way of convening, connecting and communicating with urban stakeholders.
